TIRANA, Oct. 2 /ATA/ – The government has approved a new legal framework for the crypto-asset market aimed at strengthening transparency, investor protection and regulatory oversight in the sector.
The draft law, prepared by the Financial Supervisory Authority (AMF), sets out who can provide crypto-asset services, how operators will be licensed and the requirements they must meet to operate legally.
The rules will cover trading platforms, crypto-asset custody, exchanges, transfers and portfolio management. Operators will be required to meet standards on capital, corporate governance, cybersecurity and the management of conflicts of interest.
The framework also requires greater disclosure and transparency for investors and introduces rules to prevent market abuse and money laundering.
The AMF said crypto-assets would be subject to different regulatory requirements depending on their nature, function and level of risk.
The legislation is designed to align Albania’s rules with European Union digital finance standards through the transposition of the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation.
The law on crypto-asset markets was drafted by the AMF and approved by the Council of Ministers on Friday.
The new framework is intended to establish a comprehensive licensing and supervision system for Albania’s crypto-asset market and provide a unified regulatory basis for the sector in line with European standards.
