Albania power distribution losses fall to 15.6% in first eight months

TIRANA, Oct. 2 /ATA/ – Losses in Albania’s electricity distribution network fell to 15.6% in the first eight months of 2026, continuing a steady decline in recent years, data from the Electricity Distribution System Operator (OSSH) showed on Friday.

Total network losses fell from 18.93% in 2023 to 17.93% in 2024 and 16.96% in 2025, with the rate in the first eight months of this year down by about 3.3 percentage points from 2023.

At regional level, distribution losses fell to 14.51%, from 15.94% in 2025.

Fier recorded the lowest rate in the eight-month period at 9.5%, followed by Korça at 9.63% and Tirana at 9.85%. In Tirana, losses fell below 10%, from 10.31% in 2025.

OSSH expects the downward trend to continue through the rest of the year and forecasts distribution losses of about 15.9% for 2026 as a whole.

Lower network losses are considered an important indicator of the efficiency of the electricity distribution system.
