TIRANA, Sept. 11 /ATA/ – Albania aims to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) into public procurement processes by autumn 2027 as part of cooperation with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The “We Procure Together for a European Albania” agreement is aimed at modernising procurement procedures and strengthening institutional capacity through UNOPS expertise and technical assistance.
The agreement, signed on Wednesday, provides six months of technical support to Albania’s Centralised Purchasing Operator. It was signed by the operator’s administrator, Jonaid Myzyri, and Sabine Kania, Director of the UNOPS Office for Albania and Kosovo.
The cooperation will focus on expanding digitalisation and transparency, developing strategic procurement and introducing innovative solutions into public purchasing.
The use of AI is intended to make procurement procedures more efficient and help reduce costs, while introducing a new approach to the administration of public purchasing, the agreement said.
The Albania-UNOPS initiative also seeks to align procurement procedures with international standards through technology and innovation, contributing to a more transparent and efficient system.
The government has identified technology as a key tool in the fight against corruption, seeking to automate procedures, reduce costs and improve the quality of public services.
