TIRANA, Sept. 10 /ATA/ – Trieste Mayor Roberto Dipiazza has called for greater cooperation among Balkan countries, saying the region’s 16 million people should work together to promote peace, prosperity and economic development.
“In such a complicated world, with 16 million people representing the Balkans at this moment, this cannot be a problem,” Dipiazza told Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA), welcoming the “The Balkans Meet in Trieste” conference organised by ANSA as part of the 34th General Assembly of the Alliance of Balkan News Agencies and Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE), in cooperation with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Central European Initiative (CEI).
Dipiazza highlighted the contribution of citizens from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia who live and work in Trieste.
He noted that his budget adviser, Everest Bertoli, was born and raised in Albania.
“I have always had very good relations with both the Serbian and Albanian communities. We even have a councillor, Everest Bertoli, who was born in Albania, lived there and is now my budget adviser. This is very important,” he said.
Dipiazza also said Kosovo citizens had benefited from support provided by the municipality, adding that Trieste was home to many people from across the Balkans.
“We already have so many wars. Let’s put an end to this. Let’s try to live in peace,” the Trieste mayor appealed.
