TIRANA, Sept. 8 /ATA/ – Albania is developing its first end-to-end artificial intelligence system for public procurement, while preparing a second-generation version of its e-Albania digital services platform, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the second Innovation Forum in Tirana, focused on artificial intelligence and the development of the technology sector, Rama said the government was expanding the use of AI across public administration.
The new e-Albania 2.0 platform is expected to introduce new service standards and make access to government services easier, he said.
“Diella” – the government’s AI-based virtual assistant – has already been consolidated, Rama said, adding that authorities were working to extend its use to other areas of public administration.
Rama also said the government wanted to reduce the technology sector’s reliance on state contracts and encourage private companies to develop products and services for the wider market.
He said the government had established a public company that would gradually take over the provision of some public-sector technology services, strengthening the state’s in-house capabilities.
“This will strengthen the state’s in-house capacity for the services and modules needed for government functions, while encouraging private companies to find new ways to grow and expand by doing business in the private sector,” Rama said.
The new model would not rule out cooperation with private technology companies, he said, but future partnerships should focus on developing innovative solutions for the public sector rather than routine maintenance and government contracts.
The initiative is part of a broader digital transformation of Albania’s public administration, Rama said.
