Rama: MP meddling in public hiring should be a criminal offense

TIRANA, September 3/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that any MP meddling in administrative employment should be treated as a criminal offense.

During the speech he delivered to the SP Parliamentary group and the government cabinet, Rama said that, ” I will introduce a proposal to criminalize any political interference in the hiring process—including phone calls from MPs seeking to secure jobs for individuals. When the time comes, I will look every one of you in the eye and demand your vote,” Rama said.

According to him, any message or interference with the aim of favoring a person for a job should be considered a serious violation.

“Decisions made via informal channels like ‘put this to work’ or ‘look at that’ undermine the rule of law and should be legally scrutinized. When a representative uses their position to benefit a select group of associates, relatives, or factions, they forfeit the moral authority to represent the broader electorate. Government belongs to all citizens, not just those with the MP’s phone number”, said Rama.

Rama added that, “Parents endure endless hardships to raise their children, trusting their votes to MPs who ultimately look away while those same children are devastated by a simple WhatsApp message. This is more than a failure—it is a criminal offense”, concluded Rama. /k.s/a.f/p.s./
