BoA: A stable financial sector, deposit growth and investment financing

TIRANA, September 2 /ATA/ The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania approved today the Financial Stability Declaration and Report for the first half of 2026.

According to the Bank of Albania, during the period January-June 2026, the activity of the financial system developed in a stable manner. The activity of the banking sector continued to expand at a good pace, mainly supported by the increase in deposits, which were mainly oriented towards lending and investments in securities.

According to the report, economic developments during the first half of the year were positive, influenced by the performance of consumption and investments, as well as by the stable performance of the tourism sector.

Economic growth was accompanied by an increase in employment and wages, while fiscal policy remained prudent and the share of public debt to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) continued to decrease.

On the other hand, international and domestic developments have led to increased inflationary pressures. However, the inflation rate continues to be close to the Bank of Albania’s target.

The report assesses that risks to economic and financial developments remain present, mainly related to the high uncertainty in international developments, especially due to geopolitical conflicts and trade tensions.

The Bank of Albania said that this year, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are conducting an independent assessment of the financial system’s capacity to support the economy, its regulatory framework, and its risk management capabilities.

The recommendations that will emerge from this assessment are expected to be rendered into reforms to further strengthen the stability of the financial system and increase its ability to face future challenges. /e.xh/a.f/p.s./
