TIRANA, Oct 14 /ATA/ Albania marked another important milestone on its path toward European Union membership yesterday, with the closure of negotiations on Chapter 20, “Enterprise and Industrial Policy.”
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos emphasized that Albania is among the frontrunners in making progress in the EU integration process.
“Thanks to Albania’s hard work and the support of the member states, we are closing another negotiating chapter — Chapter 20 on Enterprise and Industrial Policy. This chapter focuses on helping Albanian businesses grow, develop, compete, and create more jobs,” said European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
Meanwhile, Ireland’s Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne, emphasized in his remarks that Albania “continues to make progress.”
He said that Albania’s consistent progress reflects its commitment to EU membership, encouraging the country to stay on its current path. He added that the upcoming 2026 report would review achievements over the past year and highlight areas requiring further efforts to advance Albania’s accession process.
The Prime Minister said that “we are aware that progress is not measured simply by the number of chapters closed. These are undoubtedly important milestones, but progress is measured above all by the reforms implemented, the strengthening of institutions, and the tangible results achieved.”
With the closure of this chapter, Albania has now provisionally closed four negotiating chapters, continuing to advance its EU accession talks and pursue its goal of concluding negotiations by 2027.
