TIRANA, Sept. 1 /ATA/ – Albania’s “After School” programme will be offered in 408 schools nationwide from the new academic year, giving students more opportunities to develop skills and pursue interests in arts, culture, creativity and practical activities, Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu said on Tuesday.
The programme will cover 117 schools in the Tirana education region, 96 in Korçë, 89 in Fier, 55 in Durrës and 51 in Lezhë, Koçiu said in a social media post.
Students in grades 1-5 will have the opportunity to complete their homework for one hour a day, Monday to Friday. Students in grades 6-9 and 10-12 will be offered twice-weekly clubs in visual arts, music, dance, theatre, crafts and other creative activities.
The programme will initially rely on employed teachers selected through a transparent application process under the “Teachers for Albania” scheme. Retired teachers, arts graduates, craftspeople and other professionals will also be eligible to participate.
Teachers and professionals running activities outside regular teaching hours will receive additional financial support, with payments set at 1,000 lek per hour, Koçiu said.
“More time to learn, more opportunities for every student, alongside more spaces for children growing up with the standards and opportunities of a European Albania,” Koçiu said.
