TIRANA, Oct. 14 /ATA/ – Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi condemned attacks on parliament and public institutions during violent protests in Tirana on Wednesday, describing acts of vandalism and destruction as unacceptable.
In a statement on social media, Peleshi said violence served no cause but instead harmed the public interest and society.
“Targeting the parliament building and public institutions, and turning them into targets of blind anger, is unacceptable,” he wrote.
Peleshi stressed that acts of vandalism had nothing to do with students or democratic protest, and urged political parties to distance themselves from incitement and calls for violence.
“Vandalism has nothing to do with students or democratic protest. Violence and destruction serve no cause but harm the public interest and society itself,” he said.
The speaker reiterated his call for political parties to reject incitement and calls for violence.
“No one’s political agenda is more important than Albania,” Peleshi said.
