Interior Minister meets police officials, says ethics must be minimum standard

TIRANA, Aug. 28 /ATA/ – Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari called on police officials on Friday to strengthen service standards and public trust, saying professionalism, ethics and respect for the law must guide every interaction with citizens.

Lamallari and State Police Director General Skënder Hita met with local police and Border Police officials to discuss improving services and strengthening public confidence in the force.

Every police structure and officer should provide a professional, ethical and prompt service, fully in line with the law, Lamallari said.

“Public perception and trust are built every day through professionalism, ethics and the way the police respond to citizens’ complaints, concerns and requests for information,” he said.

Lamallari said ethics should not be viewed as an exceptional standard but as the minimum requirement for the conduct and communication of every police officer.

“Ethics is the minimum. Quality, prompt and lawful service is what citizens expect and deserve,” he said.

He called on local commanders to make these standards part of the force’s daily work, ensuring fair and swift responses to citizens’ concerns and complaints.

Lamallari also urged police officials to pay particular attention to communication with the public, saying every interaction between citizens and police was an opportunity to strengthen trust in the institution.
