Foreign Minister: Albania is not and cannot be part of any destabilisation scenario in Montenegro

TIRANA, Aug 28 /ATA/ – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha stated on Friday that Albania is not and cannot be part of any destabilisation scenario in Montenegro, following remarks by Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic about the alleged involvement of officials from “at least two countries in the region” in coordinated hybrid activities.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Hoxha said that, despite various media interpretations and speculation, there had been no formal accusation against Albania.

“I have seen the statement by Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajic about the alleged involvement of officials from ‘at least two countries in the region’ in coordinated hybrid activities. I have also seen the various media interpretations and speculation that followed,” Hoxha wrote.

“Media reports are part of public debate. We read and analyse them with due attention, but we treat them with the necessary caution, particularly when they contain differing or contradictory interpretations,” he added.

Foreign Minister stressed that “although there is no formal accusation against Albania, I want to emphasise strongly and clearly that Albania is neither part of, nor can it be part of, any destabilisation scenario, either in Montenegro, a neighbouring country and a friend, partner and NATO ally with which we share the same project of EU membership, or anywhere else.”

Albania has taken the opposite approach to any destabilisation scenario, investing in regional cooperation and stability, the minister said.

“Albania stands out because it does precisely the opposite: every day, it invests in cooperation, mutual understanding, stability and the development of the region, as well as in broader European and Euro-Atlantic cooperation,” Hoxha said.

“Speculation, media interpretations or the domestic political debates of a neighbouring country cannot and should not artificially create problems between our two countries. We remain in constant contact at all levels, and I have done the same in this case, through communications with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ibrahimovic, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Nik Gjeloshaj,” Hoxha wrote.

“This should also be kept in mind here in Albania. Different actors, including political ones, are welcome to obtain any information they need from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to avoid unnecessary debates and, above all, to prevent the country’s foreign policy from becoming the subject or instrument of domestic partisan debates and approaches. Foreign policy always requires calm, restraint and responsibility,” Hoxha concluded.
