Gryka e Vajës: Natural monument highlights Albania’s rugged landscape and clear waters

TIRANA, Aug 20 /ATA/ Gryka e Vajës, an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Krujë region, continues to draw attention for its distinctive landscape, where rocky formations, canyons, lush vegetation and crystal-clear waters come together to create a striking panorama.

Environment Minister Sofjan Jaupaj shared images of the area on social media, highlighting its natural significance. The site has been designated a natural monument.

“A landscape carved by time, where canyons, greenery and cool, clear waters come together, reminding us that some of Albania’s most beautiful treasures remain far from the crowds, in unspoilt nature,” Jaupaj wrote.

Gryka e Vajës is one of Albania’s natural areas offering opportunities for exploration and nature-based tourism, while preserving its landscape and biodiversity remains important to the sustainable development of such destinations.

The footage highlights Albania’s natural heritage and its potential to be promoted as a tourism destination while preserving its distinctive character and natural values.

Gryka e Vajës lies at an elevation of around 120 metres above sea level and is approximately 1 km long and 200 metres deep. Its steep slopes and pronounced karst features give the area significant geological value. Formed by the erosion caused by the Droja stream through limestone rock, the gorge is characterised by rugged canyons, karst formations and a rich natural landscape.
