TIRANA, July 23 /ATA/ Head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary group Taulant Balla stated that the protests outside Parliament turned violent and that he stands with the four police officers hurt in the clashes.
Speaking to journalists outside the Parliament hall, Balla said that violence against police officers is an assault on the state; justice institutions must enforce strict penalties for these offenders.
He added that such acts cannot be tolerated in a NATO member country.
He rejected claims that it was just egg-throwing, stating that the footage shows acts of violence against the officers.
Balla demanded maximum accountability from the judiciary.
The head of the socialist Parliamentary group also repeated his claims that people inciting violence may have ties with the Iranian regime.
He mentioned the name of Dritan Goxhaj and demanded that the justice bodies verify these statements.
Speaking about the Administrative-Territorial Reform, Balla said that there is currently no final project for the new territorial map and that decision-making will be based on technical, constitutional and legal criteria.
“After the report of the findings, there begins the process of proposals,” said Balla, adding that any change will go through consultation with the local government.
Balla noted that the reform relies on set rules, not personal or local wishes.
Balla said that municipalities and local units will have the opportunity to give their opinion during the process and that territorial reform issues are resolved not through protests, but communication.
Regarding territorial reform, Balla said that the Special Commission has completed its mandate and that proposals can now be submitted by Parliamentary groups and individual MPs.
“Everything has a deadline. Nine months were enough to do this task,” he said. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
