48th consecutive demonstration in Tirana opposing Zvërnec development

TIRANA, July 16 /ATA/ In Tirana, the citizens’ movement—which began by opposing the Zvërnec investment—extended into its 48th day with growing calls for Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation and the government’s departure.

Starting in “Skanderbeg” square, the crowd marched toward the Prime Minister’s Office along “Martyrs of Nation” boulevard. Protesters challenged the controversial project while demanding policy reforms for protected areas and strategic investments.

An activist urged citizens to massively gather outside Parliament on the morning of July 23, calling it a pivotal day for sustaining the anti-government movement.

He noted that daytime citizen participation will be particularly impactful, as it coincides with Parliament’s final session before the summer recess.

Waving national flags and placards, demonstrators demanded a repeal of the protected areas law, electoral reform and the dismantling of the entrenched political elite.

The protesters reiterated that they will continue their rallies and marches every day.

After staying for several hours in front of the Prime Minister’s Office building, the protesters began their march through the main streets of Tirana.
