Berisha: Democratic Party is preparing criminal complaint over Albanian Files

TIRANA, July 7 /ATA/ The Democratic Party chairman Sali Berisha said Tuesday that while in government his administration commissioned a British company to draft a detailed plan for developing Albania’s coastline, which he argued would have prevented environmental damage and uncontrolled construction. Speaking at a press conference, Berisha added that the firm had mapped areas off‑limits to building, while further coastal development was intended to be managed by local authorities.

At a press conference, Berisha said the company had mapped areas off-limits to construction, while further coastal development was intended to be overseen by local authorities. ‘Had the company’s project been implemented, Albanians today would boast a very different coastline. None of the blight or appalling environmental crimes committed along Albania’s shore would have occurred,’ he remarked, adding that the plan was dropped by Prime Minister Rama.

“This book represents the most criminal file in Albania’s history over the past 35 years. I welcome its submission to SPAK by representatives of the protest. I assure you that the Democratic Party is studying it and will file another indictment with SPAK concerning this book. Once again, for us it is considered the most criminal fiel,” he said.

According to Berisha, the projects and building permits included in The Albanian Files were ‘commissioned, directed and approved by Edi Rama.’

Berisha said the Prime Minister has taken control of territorial development, arguing that Albania has been turned into a country where construction projects are exploited for criminal interests and money laundering.
