Bank of Albania keeps base interest rate unchanged

TIRANA, July 1 /ATA/ The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania maintained an unchanged monetary policy stance, signalling continued policy vigilance amid external uncertainties and their potential spillover effects on domestic inflation and economic activity.

Governor Gent Sejko stated that the base interest rate will remain at 2.5%, reflecting a steady policy position consistent with anchoring inflation expectations and preserving macroeconomic stability.

Sejko also confirmed that the overnight deposit facility rate will remain at 1.5%, while the overnight lending rate will be kept unchanged at 3.5%.

He said the current monetary policy stance continues to be appropriate under present conditions, supporting the central bank’s price stability objective.

“This policy stance supports the fulfilment of baseline scenario projections by ensuring appropriate monetary conditions for inflation to return to target. It also helps mitigate uncertainty regarding the future trajectory of economic activity and inflation, while allowing sufficient time for a more comprehensive assessment of the impact of rising oil prices on inflation,” said Sejko.

Governor Sejko also stressed that the monetary policy response will continue to be consistently geared towards achieving the price stability objective, ensuring that supply-side shocks do not translate into persistent and long-term inflationary pressures.

He added that the Supervisory Council will continue to closely and continuously monitor developments, and that, based on incoming data, it remains prepared to respond in a timely manner, with the appropriate direction and intensity, to any material risks to price stability.

Sejko stressed that the prudent and consistent monetary policy pursued by the Bank of Albania has continued to make a positive contribution by maintaining monetary stability and creating appropriate financial conditions for the country’s sustainable development.
