TIRANA, June 30 /ATA/ – Citizens and activists opposing a planned tourism development in the coastal village of Zvërnec, southern Albania, gathered in their 31st consecutive protest on Tuesday, marching from Tirana’s Skanderbeg Square to the Prime Minister’s office after earlier tensions outside parliament.
Protesters renewed calls for the cancellation of the investment project and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Speaking at the rally, protest organiser Arben Kola urged Rama to step down and called for a generational change in Albanian politics.
“The time has come to make way for young people. Both the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party have young members who could govern far better than Rama and Sali,” Kola said.
The protest followed clashes earlier in the day outside parliament, where police intervened during a demonstration.
Police detained six protesters on allegations of resisting law enforcement officers before releasing them several hours later.
