PM Rama says June budget revision reflects Albania’s economic growth

TIRANA, June 30 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Tuesday that the government’s June normative budget act reflects Albania’s economic growth and the fiscal space it has created to expand social support and public investment.

In a social media post, Rama said the revised budget provides for a new summer bonus for pensioners, increased support for people with disabilities, children with special needs, including those with autism, and their caregivers.

He said the package also includes additional funding for technology, entrepreneurship, healthcare, agriculture, and urban and rural development, as well as what he described as the largest-ever allocation for Albania’s Armed Forces.

“In the coming days we will explain each of these measures in detail, but it is significant that the pensioners’ bonus, along with all the additional revenue generated by higher fuel prices, has now been approved,” Rama said.

Economy and Innovation Minister Delina Ibrahimaj said earlier today that the government had approved a new one-off payment of 5,000 leks for pensioners, with disbursements set to begin on Wednesday.

She said the measure covers about 777,200 beneficiaries, including recipients of old-age, disability and survivor pensions, as well as people receiving special financial benefits.

According to Ibrahimaj, the bonus will cost around 3.7 billion leks and will be financed through higher-than-expected budget revenues and the economy’s positive performance.
