TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ – Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha on Saturday said that ongoing street protests in Albania should succeed and called on citizens, at home and abroad, to contribute to what he described as a “historic cause.”
Berisha said youth-led demonstrations had become the central political development in the country, describing them as an expression of civic ideals and public discontent.
“From 1990 until today, Albania has never seen such a youth protest, such an explosion of ideals, emotions and civility among young people, supported by citizens in Albania and the diaspora,” Berisha said.
He added that the continuity and scale of the protests had become a source of hope for supporters both inside and outside the country.
“This protest must win, and there is only one condition: strong support from all citizens,” he said, urging Democrats and Albanians in the diaspora to back the movement.
Berisha also addressed past political controversies, including allegations related to international contacts and historical narratives involving public figures, which he said had been misrepresented for political purposes.
He further criticised what he described as attempts to discredit wartime figures and the legacy of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), arguing that symbols associated with the movement were being unfairly targeted in public discourse.
