Justice Minister: Albania closer than ever to EU membership

TIRANA, June 25 /ATA/ – Albania is closer than ever to joining the European Union and must not miss the opportunity presented by the current enlargement process, Justice Minister Toni Gogu said on Thursday.

In a social media post, Gogu said he had taken part in a discussion on the future of the European project with students from the College of Europe and former French President François Hollande.

“When our closest friends and partners tell us that Albania is nearer than ever to membership of the European Union, that is all the more reason to continue our reforms and work with determination,” Gogu said.

He described the country’s EU accession bid as a “historic moment” that should not be missed.

“European integration is not only a political objective, but a guarantee of a fairer, stronger Albania with greater opportunities for every citizen,” he said.
