PM Rama to attend EU-Western Balkans summit in Montenegro

TIRANA, June 4 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama will attend the European Union-Western Balkans summit in the Montenegrin coastal town of Tivat on June 5, the Media and Information Agency (MIA) said on Thursday.

The summit will bring together leaders from the EU and the six Western Balkan countries to discuss the region’s European integration process, closer economic integration with the bloc and implementation of the EU’s Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.

The meeting comes six months after the previous EU-Western Balkans summit in Brussels and will be chaired by European Council President Antonio Costa and hosted by Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas are also expected to attend.

Under the theme “Shared Prosperity and Stability of the EU and the Western Balkans”, leaders will review progress in the EU enlargement process and discuss ways to gradually integrate the region into the EU’s single market and policy framework.

The summit programme includes a welcoming ceremony hosted by Milatović, followed by a plenary session focused on common European and regional priorities.

Leaders are also expected to exchange views on shared challenges facing both the region and Europe, including issues related to security, stability and sustainable development.

The gathering is part of the implementation of the European Council’s 2024-2029 Strategic Agenda and reflects the EU’s continued commitment to the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
