TIRANA, May 28 /ATA/ Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, announced on Thursday that the government meeting adopted the winning projects put forward by the National Agency for Civil Protection. These initiatives are designed to strengthen local self-government units in their capacity to respond and manage natural disasters.
In a media statement following the conclusion of the government meeting, Minister Nufi stated: ‘The list of winning projects for 2026 was consolidated in February of this year. The fund anticipates that by the end of the year there will be a total of 44 winning projects. Of these, 26 are infrastructure projects, while 18 concern the procurement of equipment and tools required by municipalities to effectively manage natural disasters.
Minister Nufi emphasized that the total value of financing amounts to 650 million lek, while the remaining portion will be funded during 2027. ‘With this decision, we reduce the risk posed by natural disasters and strengthen the civil protection ecosystem,’ he stated. The Minister also appealed for heightened vigilance with the approach of the summer season and rising temperatures.”
“My appeal, with the approach of the drought period and the scorching summer temperatures, is that we exercise increased vigilance across the entire territory, particularly in areas susceptible to rising temperatures, such as forests, pastures, etc,” he stated.
He recalled that the Ministry of Defense intervenes during the third phase of civil emergency management. ‘The initial response is undertaken by the prefectures, followed by the National Agency for Civil Protection in coordination with the Armed Forces, and subsequently the Ministry of Defense, which assumes responsibility for addressing civil emergencies. My appeal is that we remain vigilant and safeguard our forests and territory, thereby reducing instances of arson or damage to pastures and forests during the fire season,’ Minister Nufi stated.”
