Opposition MP Tabaku says EU integration requires strong institutions and political will, not propaganda

TIRANA, May 19  /ATA/ Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku, together with two majority MPs, is conducting a series of meetings and discussions in Germany, focused on Albania’s European integration process.

Through a video published on social media, Tabaku emphasized that the European integration process cannot be reduced to propaganda or the mere opening of chapters on paper, but requires strong institutions, a functioning market economy, and genuine reforms.

According to her, Albania has spent critical months at a ‘crossroads’ regarding its European path, underlining that attracting foreign investment is directly linked to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring free competition.

“The path to integration passes through strong institutions. The attraction of foreign investment requires strong institutions and economic reforms which, unfortunately, have not yet been carried out,” Tabaku stated in her message.

The Democratic Party MP underscored the importance of parliamentarism and independent institutions in the integration process, stressing that functional democracy, parliamentary oversight, and the fight against corruption constitute the cornerstone of Albania’s European path.

In her concluding remarks, Tabaku stated that European integration requires, above all, political will. She noted that the opposition has demonstrated such will, whereas, in her view, the government lacks the seriousness necessary to carry forward the genuine reforms required by the European Union.
