TIRANA, May 17 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Sunday that Albania has made significant progress in public procurement, ranking first in the region according to European Union assessments.
Speaking on his Let’s Talk podcast, the government head described public procurement as one of the key chapters in Albania’s EU accession process, stressing that recent evaluations reflect “substantial transformation and progress”.
“Based on European assessments, Albania is first in the region across all public procurement indicators and, in some cases, performs above the EU average,” Rama said.
He cited EU data showing that the share of procedures with a single bidder stands at 23.5% in Albania, compared with over 32% in EU countries, while in public works tenders the figure drops to 12%.
Rama linked the results to anti-corruption efforts and state modernisation, including digitalisation of public services. He said around 95% of government services are now available online through the e-Albania platform, reducing bureaucracy and direct contact between citizens and public administration.
The Prime Minister added that the procurement system and wider reforms demonstrate Albania’s progress in aligning with EU standards and improving transparency in public administration.
