TIRANA, May 11 /ATA/ – The ratio of non-performing loans in Albania’s banking sector rose slightly in March, according to data published by the Bank of Albania on Monday.
The non-performing loan (NPL) ratio increased to 3.85% in March from 3.8% in February, reflecting a moderate monthly rise.
However, the indicator declined compared with the same period a year earlier, when the NPL ratio stood at 4.02%.
Despite the slight monthly increase, the ratio remains close to the lowest levels recorded in nearly 18 years, indicating a continued improvement in the quality of banks’ loan portfolios.
The total value of bad loans reached 36.9 billion leks, up 6% year-on-year.
Central bank said the indicator had shown only minor fluctuations during the first months of 2026, following a trend similar to that seen last year.
