TIRANA, May 8 /ATA/ – The Democratic Party and its allies in opposition are holding their latest nationwide protest on Friday evening along “the Martyrs of the Nation” boulevard, outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Tirana, calling for the government’s resignation and early free and fair elections.
The rally marks the eighth national protest organised by the opposition.
Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha joined a group of lawmakers and supporters who marched from the party headquarters to the protest site.
The demonstration is being held without formal speeches from opposition representatives, with a moderator instead addressing social issues via loudspeaker.
During the protest, participants observed a minute of silence in memory of two children who died in a recent traffic accident in the city of Durrës.
A significant security presence has been deployed, with around 1,500 police officers assigned to maintain order. The Tirana police implemented temporary traffic restrictions across key central roads.
From 3:00 p.m. until the end of the protest, vehicle movement was suspended on “the Martyrs of the Nation” boulevard between the Ministry of Interior junction and “Mother Teresa” Square, as well as on several surrounding streets.
