TIRANA, May 7/ATA/ Chairman of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha told the Parliament today that the new EP Foreign Affairs report confirms opposition warnings about Albania’s political situation, highlighting evidence of electoral irregularities and a failing democratic environment.
Berisha highlighted the fact that the report was prepared by a bipartisan fact-finding mission composed of MEPs from different political parties. And the mission’s findings expose severe irregularities in the electoral process and the erosion of state institutions.
According to the DP leader, the report noted that the state institutions merged into one with party structures.
“So, you held elections in a one-party state,” Berisha said.
Berisha said that the ruling majority’s refusal to lift the Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku’s immunity stalls EU integration efforts.
The DP leader added that according to the EP report, the weak institutional performance in Albania directly jeopardizes its European path.
Berisha said that the ruling majority is avoiding Parliamentary debates on issues that, according to him, are related to corruption and the management of public funds.
“We cannot allow this approach to hinder the integration. Let’s focus on solutions that protect our progress”, he said. /m.q/j.p/p.s./
