Rediscovering ‘May Concerts’ through ATA Archives

TIRANA, May 3 /ATA/ From the ATA archives: A look back at the May Concerts.

Before the 1990s, these concerts lit up the capital for several days in a row, bringing together hundreds of professional and amateur artists who performed across diverse genres.

The May Concerts ran from 1967 until 1990. The selected photos from the ATA archive date back to 1986, captured by photographers P. Omeri and G. Xhengo. At the conclusion of each May Concert—named after the month in which they were held—a final performance showcased selected pieces. Alongside artists from the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, school students, ensembles, and amateur groups from various institutions also took the stage.

The repertoire of the May Concerts featured symphonic music, light music songs, traditional dances, classical ballet, as well as folk songs from different regions of the country.
