Berisha meets CDU official: Electoral process distorted, EU integration should be merit-based

TIRANA, April 27  /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting on Monday at the party’s head office with Christian Forneck, Advisor on Foreign Policy and Security to the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag.

Berisha expressed his appreciation for the ongoing support of Bundestag officials towards the Democratic Party, both during its time in opposition and in government. He highlighted that the meeting revolved around the political developments in Albania and the strengthening of cooperation between the parties.

The DP chairman added that he had informed the Bundestag official on the efforts to skew the electoral process

“The Bundestag officials are highly valued allies who have consistently offered crucial support to the Democratic Party, both in opposition and in government, in times of prosperity and in times of adversity. We had a thorough discussion regarding this cooperation, and I provided my distinguished counterpart with a comprehensive update on the developments in Albania, including the perversion of the electoral process into a sham by Edi Rama, and the consolidation of all power in the hands of one individual,” said Berisha.

Berisha underscored that Albania’s integration into the European Union must be grounded in merit. He stated that only such a process would serve the interests of both the Albanian citizens and the European Union.

“We have agreed to strengthen our cooperation in the best interest of Albania’s EU integration process, which, I reiterate, must be based on merit. A merit-based process is the only one that truly aligns with the fundamental interests of the Albanian people.”

Berisha argued that it is in the EU’s best interest to address the threat posed by Albania, which, according to U.S. Department of State reports, has become a central hub for criminal organizations, threatening peace and security in Albania and the broader region.
