Berisha receives Diaspora Coordination Council delegation: Albania is undergoing rapid depopulation

TIRANA, April 16/ATA/ Chairman of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha received today a delegation of the Diaspora Coordination Council headed by Lazim Destani.

The diaspora representatives said that one of their requests to the opposition and the government is that in the next elections the diaspora should be represented with its candidates in an electoral zone.

The opposition leader said that the history of the diaspora is the history of successful Albanians and especially of women.

After Kadare and Saint Teresa, Albanian women in the world are the most famous and we are proud of them, Berisha emphasized.

National unity is crucial. Albania is facing an existential crisis. Between 2015 and 2024, over a million citizens emigrated to the Schengen area alone. At this rate, Albania risks becoming a nation in name only within 50 years, said Berisha.

Speaking about the economy, Berisha said that, “Drug-trafficking revenue has created an artificial ‘super-Lek,’ causing a devastating drop in the euro and dollar that threatens to bankrupt local exporters”. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
