Berisha: Mass emigration poses serious challenge to country’s future

TIRANA, April 14  /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, used today’s press conference, to spotlight the role of the diaspora and the political developments in the country. He accused the government of harming the national interest and undermining the European integration process.

Berisha slammed PM Rama’s approach, linking his government to issues which, he argued, have harmed Albania’s strategic interests and affected the wider Albanian community in the region.

Speaking at the regular press conference, Berisha described Rama as “the fiercest enemy of the Albanian nation since Enver Hoxha” and claimed his policies have harmed Albania’s strategic position and the wider Albanian community in the region.

Berisha also criticised the government’s stance on Kosovo and regional affairs, pointing to initiatives undertaken over the years.

“Since taking office, he has engaged in initiatives that have affected Kosovo and the wider region, including regional schemes that have not secured broad international support,” Berisha told reporters.

Addressing foreign policy and regional relations, Berisha said Albania should adopt a clearer stance with international partners and in integration processes.

Berisha also raised concerns over rising emigration, saying the outflow of citizens has become one of the country’s most pressing social and economic challenges of the past decade.

Berisha linked the trend to the way the country is governed and the functioning of its institutions, arguing that poor governance has driven many Albanians to seek opportunities abroad.

Berisha also stressed the need for political change and called for the diaspora to play a stronger role in the country’s political and institutional life.
