TIRANA, April 8/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the new Regional Hospital of Lezha today, where he met with senior medical staff.
Accompanied by Minister of Health and Social Welfare Evis Sala, PM Rama oversaw the hospital’s recent investments, focusing on the development of the chemotherapy unit.
Minister Sala said that the hospital underwent a full modernization in 2025, integrating advanced, cutting-edge equipment.
“Lezha Hospital has upgraded its regional impact with a new infectious diseases service and fully standardized, QSUT-aligned chemotherapy treatment, elevating regional healthcare to national standards”, said Sala.
The minister also said that, “We are bolstering the healthcare sector with a pay rise for over 22,000 doctors and nurses”.
Sala emphasized that plans are underway to relocate the Lezha Hospital’s outpatient services to a dedicated, modern facility, with investments slated for 2027.
Rama praised this initiative while emphasizing that hospitals managing general outpatient services are often overloaded, losing operational focus due to high daily volumes.
The prime minister also emphasized that bringing oncology services to regional hospitals is a wonderful advancement, ensuring that cancer treatment is accessible, dignified and closer to the patients’ support networks.
The prime minister informed that June’s budget review will add emergency doctors to the specialist category.
Rama emphasized that the significant rise in salaries is a direct consequence of substantial economic growth.
The prime minister particularly praised the service provided at the Lezha hospital, for which he stressed that there had been no complaints.
According to him, Albania has very good doctors, but the problem remains management.
In this regard, Rama stressed that financial autonomy does not solve everything, but creates a very encouraging and motivating basis.
The prime minister stressed that another step that should be taken in the future is the establishment of tariffs for foreign tourists. /j.p/p.s./
