PM Rama: Public administration key to sustaining economic growth

TIRANA, April 7 /ATA-By Maela Marini/ – Public administration plays a central role in underpinning Albania’s sustainable economic growth, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the presentation of a new employment portal, Rama said the economy’s steady expansion is also driven by a more effective administration aligned with the processes needed to support growth.

He stressed that economic growth must translate into higher incomes for citizens and the state, requiring a competent and accountable administration.

“It is not sufficient for the economy to grow or show a growth trend if this is not reflected in incomes for citizens and public finances. We need a strong administration, with both capability and integrity, to sustain the growth we are seeing, including in revenues from customs and taxes,” he said.

The government head also highlighted the administration’s role in fostering a positive business climate, enabling companies to operate without undue pressure from corruption or bribery.

“A well-positioned administration is essential to ensure that economic growth ultimately translates into higher wages, increased pensions and expanded rights,” he said.

He added that public sector employees, including teachers, doctors, nurses, police officers and members of the armed forces, are now receiving additional pay linked to years of service.
