Rama says Albania is building economy to support higher wages and pensions

TIRANA, April 1 /ATA/ Speaking at a Socialist Party assembly in Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized the incremental increases in wages and pensions across both public and private sectors, noting that although the need was long recognized, the means to implement them had previously been unavailable.

Rama explained that previous economic constraints had prevented wage increases, but now salaries are rising significantly in both the public and private sectors, with private employers increasingly focused on finding and retaining the skilled people rather than just setting pay levels.

The Prime Minister noted that pensions are now on a continuous path of growth, with annual increases set to multiply over time.

“If a pension rose by X in January this year, it will double next January; by January 2028 it will triple; by January 2029 it will quadruple, reaching the levels we have pledged for pensioners,” Rama stated.
Prime Minister Rama highlighted that Albania’s economy is growing sustainably, but he warned that it remains vulnerable to international developments, noting that the country is not fully insulated from global events like the war in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Rama stated that Albania aims to achieve energy sovereignty within this government’s term by expanding solar and wind capacities and developing battery storage projects, while noting the limitations of solar power.
Rama added that when production capacity is high, thanks to full hydroelectric reserves, a portion of solar energy can be stored in batteries for later use. He emphasized that this is part of a developing and modernizing energy economy.
