TIRANA, March 30 /ATA-By Maela Marini/ – Albania’s EU accession process places its heaviest burden on the economy, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday, highlighting the breadth of reforms required across key sectors.
Speaking at an information meeting on the progress of negotiations with the European Union, Rama pointed to the impact of the process on strengthening justice institutions.
“Justice bodies have now entered a new phase, as they have gained a level of independence they have never had before,” he said.
The government head added that further consolidation must focus on improving professionalism, impartiality and the quality of services.
Rama said the reform process ensures that the fight against corruption goes beyond a direct confrontation between judicial institutions and the phenomenon itself.
“It is also a fight waged on the front of institutional modernisation and transformation, and in building the capacity of the entire state to prevent corruption,” he said, adding that reforms aim to curb activities taking place in “grey areas” or in the absence of reliable institutional channels ensuring swift and effective interactions.
The Prime Minister said the economic dimension carries the greatest weight in the negotiations, though its complexity extends to sectors including infrastructure, energy, finance and agriculture.
