PM Rama: Albania aims to introduce AI-driven public procurement by 2027

TIRANA, March 30 /ATA-By Maela Marini/ – Albania aims to roll out artificial intelligence in public procurement by 2027, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday, as part of broader reforms tied to the country’s European Union accession process.

Rama said work to further modernize the public procurement system using AI must continue at pace and be completed within the current negotiation timeline.

“We must move from red to green in public procurement,” the government head said during a presentation on the progress of EU talks, noting that while Albania has made significant gains compared with its past performance and the region, it has yet to meet EU benchmarks for solid progress.

The introduction of AI in procurement would take the system to “a completely different level” and position Albania as a model in the field, Rama said.

“This is not something for the next century. It must be achieved within this timeframe of the negotiation calendar. By 2027, this objective should be fulfilled,” he added.

Rama also said progress on financial control remains limited, underlining the need for reform in the area.

“Reform of financial control is essential, and we have already begun preparatory work,” he said.
