Foreign Minister: EU enlargement a strategic necessity, not just policy

TIRANA, March 22 /ATA/ – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha said European Union enlargement is a strategic necessity for peace and security, speaking at a screening of the documentary “The EUkrainian” in Tirana.

The event, hosted at the House of Europe by the Embassy of Sweden in Tirana, brought together senior officials including the EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, and the film’s director Viktor Nordenskiöld.

Hoxha described the documentary as a powerful and human portrayal of determination, resilience and courage, highlighting Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to advance towards membership in the European Union.

“This event serves as a reminder of the importance of continued and unwavering support for Ukraine, a commitment Albania fully upholds,” Hoxha said.

He stressed that EU enlargement should be viewed not merely as a policy choice, but as a strategic imperative for a stronger, more secure Europe.

The documentary offers an intimate perspective on Ukraine’s EU path, focusing on the early months of the Russian invasion through the experience of Olha Stefanishyna, who leads the country’s accession negotiations with the bloc.
