TIRANA, March 14/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted today to the decision of the Kosovar government to issue temporary residence permits for 12 months to members of the Serbian community without local documents and to recognize identity cards issued by Serbian authorities.
Rama underlined that he welcomes the coordination between Kosovar government and the European Union on the Law on Foreigners, emphasizing that the destruction of parallel structures is a difficult task and that the EU must move forward with the country’s application for membership.
“We welcome Kosova – EU coordination on the Law on Foreigners. Dismantling parallel structures is hard work. The EU should match that courage and lift punitive measures, move on Kosova’s membership application. A Western Balkans fully inside the EU is not charity. It is Europe’s own strategic victory”, wrote PM Rama on X platform.
According to the latest announcement by the Kosovar authorities, the full implementation of the Law on Foreigners and Vehicles will enter into force on March 15.
Based on these laws, all those who do not have local documents will have to obtain a residence permit, while vehicles with foreign license plates will not be able to move in the country for more than three months, or on the basis of authorization.
The new facilitating measures for members of the Serbian community come after a meeting of Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the European Union Special Representative for the Kosovar-Serbian Dialogue Peter Sorensen on March 14 in Prishtina. /m.q/a.f/p.s./
