Berisha calls next opposition protest on March 12

TIRANA, March 4 /ATA/ – Main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha on Wednesday called for a nationwide protest on March 12th, describing it as the “next uprising” against the government.

Speaking at a meeting of the party’s parliamentary group, Berisha urged citizens across the country to join the demonstration against Prime Minister Edi Rama.

“I call on Albanian citizens in all four corners of Albania to unite against the head of this criminal organisation and give him the response he deserves for his theft and for the high national betrayal of the European ideals of the Albanian people,” Berisha said.

He accused Rama of violating the law to protect himself and of steering the country away from its European path.

“Albania, more than any other country, has had and continues to have a vital need for the integration process,” Berisha said, referring to the country’s bid to join the European Union. He added that EU integration should be completed on the basis of merit, through the implementation of laws, the constitution and European standards.

Berisha described the moment as critical for the country and said citizens were determined to “take their fate into their own hands”.

He called on supporters to fulfil what he described as their duty to defend their dignity and personal integrity by participating in the March 12 protest.
