PM Rama: Drone-based wildfire detection system to be deployed in Shkodra

TIRANA, Feb 27 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Friday that the northern municipality of Shkodra is being equipped with an intelligent drone-based system for wildfire detection and environmental monitoring.

Under the new system, any changes in forested areas – from emerging fire hotspots to disease-related damage – will be identified in real time through aerial imagery and thermal data, Rama said.

Shkodra will be the first municipality in Albania to employ such an advanced monitoring system, aimed at strengthening environmental protection and early fire response.

The project is financed by the European Union under the IPA Montenegro-Albania cross-border cooperation programme.

Authorities say the advanced monitoring technology is expected to improve emergency management, helping protect lives, property and the environment.
