TIRANA, February 22/ATA/ A premier birdwatching hotspot, Divjakë-Karavasta National Park is famed for its large, elegant flocks of flamingos, which dominate the scenic wetlands.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media images of flamingos over the Divjakë-Karavasta lagoon, labeling it a spectacle of our biodiversity.
Rama wrote that, “This national park remains one of the most important shelters for waterfowl in the Mediterranean, where every season brings colors to a unique natural balance”.
Flamingos are birds that migrate to warm places and prefer salty and shallow waters, where they find their chosen food. In our country, the habitat of this species is the Narta Lagoon, Karavasta, but also Lake Pogradec.
Karavasta is ranked among the lagoons of great significance for migratory species and as a habitat for over 20,000 wintering birds.
This lagoon is also known for the large colony of Dalmatian pelicans, the only coastal nesting site in Albania.
The hunting moratorium has led to a significant increase in the colony of pelicans, but also of flamingos, which were extremely rare. /e.i/j.p./p.s./
