TIRANA, Feb 18 /ATA/ The DP chairman Sali Berisha described the recent opposition protests as the most significant in the party’s history, framing them as efforts to defend national dignity and integrity.
Berisha appealed to democrats to persevere in their political campaign, highlighting that their mission—to defend and safeguard Albania—is of critical importance and widely anticipated by Albanians everywhere.
Berisha highlighted February 20 as the day when Albanians triumphed over the legacy of Enver Hoxha, whom he described as the most destructive figure in the nation’s history. He urged supporters to confront this past, commending the Democratic Party for enduring unjust hardships and remaining a true opposition despite attempts to establish a nominal, “puppet” opposition.
Berisha alleges the ruling majority seeks to destroy opposition and called out legislative intervention restricting the suspension of constitutional powers.
Berisha accused the government of attempting to shield itself from prosecution through legislation, calling it an unprecedented abuse of power, and urged the opposition to respond with unity and strength.
Berisha called on the opposition to overthrow the government, alleging massive embezzlement of public funds and claiming that investments meant for economic growth and job creation are being diverted into officials’ personal accounts.
