Jaupaj: With first phase of waste reform complete, our focus now shifts to investments

TIRANA, February 10/ATA/ The Ministry of Environment has successfully concluded the first phase of building a modern and sustainable waste management system in Albania.

During a press conference, Minister of Environment Sofjan Jaupaj stated that the reform launched in September 2025 is built on three main pillars, which are now fully implemented: the adoption of the law “On integrated waste management”, the adoption of the law “On extended producer responsibility” and the establishment of the National Waste Management Agency.

“These three initiatives allow us today to move from the phase of legal regulation to the phase of concrete investments on the ground”, said Jaupaj, adding that the focus of the Ministry of Environment is now on building modern waste management infrastructure throughout the country.

The minister said that Albania is divided into 10 waste management zones and there have been drafted detailed investment plans for each zone, which will gradually start from 2026 and continue in the following years. /j.p/p.s./
