TIRANA, January 27/ATA/ Chairperson of the Parliamentary group in the Democratic Party Gazment Bardhi said today that the Assembly has become a sanctuary for entrenched corruption.
He pointed at the request of the Special Prosecution Office to the Assembly to lift the immunity of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
During his speech in the Assembly, Bardhi said that since December 19, the Assembly had a very clear, non-negotiable obligation to decide without delay on the acceptance of SPAK request to lift the immunity of Balluku.
“But, the Assembly failed to fulfill this obligation. The accused Deputy Prime Minister is still in office as if nothing had happened. And she is accused and under active investigation for 11 procurement and concession procedures with a total value of 1.1 billion euros,” said Bardhi.
According to Bardhi, the Assembly remained silent on the prosecution’s request. First of all, the Speaker of the Assembly did not abide by the law but, submitted to the political order of the Prime Minister.
“We have demanded a meeting of the Mandates Council so that to pave the way for the Assembly to decide on the SPAK request. We have requested its gathering 5 times because the Speaker of the Assembly remained silent, after the Prime Minister had ignored SPAK and justice request”, Bardhi said. /m.q/j.p/p.s./
