TIRANA, Jan 22 /ATA/ The government, in collaboration with the country’s municipalities, is developing a comprehensive plan to tackle plastic pollution across the territory.
This plan, also announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama, is a response to the plastic pollution of water sources, which compounded the issues caused by the heavy rainfall in early January.
According to the Minister of Environment, Sofjan Jaupaj, who addressed this topic during an event organized as part of the “EU4Rivers” project two days ago, the plan adopts a 360° approach, ranging from education to stricter measures against any environmental abuse.
“The Albanian government is developing a coordinated initiative with local authorities through a three-phase plan, aimed at effectively tackling and controlling this highly detrimental phenomenon,” stated Jaupaj.
One of the key components of the plan is the education and awareness-raising of both the younger generation and the local population, with the ultimate goal of implementing stricter measures to combat any form of environmental abuse.
As part of the plan, a joint government-municipality task force is set to be established to crack down on plastic pollution, which is regarded as a critical factor worsening flooding and causing environmental harm.
