TIRANA, Jan 21 /ATA/ – Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports has launched a data collection initiative as part of a new programme aimed at revitalising traditional stone homes or towers across northern Albania, treating them not only as cultural monuments but as functional spaces integrated into local tourism and economic development.
The programme, implemented in cooperation with GIZ Albania, covers the regions of Dibër, Kukës, Shkodër and Lezhë.
The initiative seeks to repurpose the towers as guesthouses, cultural centres, local museums and educational sites, incorporated into tourism itineraries offering authentic experiences for domestic and international visitors.
The Ministry said the intervention will help preserve cultural heritage, strengthen local identity and create new opportunities for sustainable development in the communities concerned.
As part of the process, an information questionnaire has been prepared to gather data on the physical and functional state of the towers, their historical and architectural features, associated cultural practices, tourism potential and legal status.
The collected data will form the basis for drafting an integrated programme for the restoration and promotion of the stone houses as cultural heritage assets.
