TIRANA, Jan 5 /ATA/ – Albania has officially designated SMIAL – the Higher Education Information Management System – as the national platform for managing higher education, Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro said on Monday, following a Cabinet decision.
The system aims to modernise higher education management by providing unified data, enhancing transparency and ensuring information security for students and universities.
SMIAL is designed to offer a more integrated and efficient approach to data management, improving planning, monitoring and reporting at the national level, while supporting evidence-based decision-making.
Minister Kumbaro highlighted the system’s role in raising the quality of higher education and ensuring more transparent and effective administration of university resources and data.
The platform interacts with several state databases, including the National Civil Status Registry, the State Exam and other digitised testing systems, the National Electronic Register for Foreigners, the Commercial Registry, and the Electronic Tax System.
