TIRANA, December 29 /ATA/ Chairperson of the Parliamentary group of the Democratic Party Gazment Bardhi reacted to the Constitutional Court’s statement, demanding clarification from it regarding the way this institution is handling the case of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
Bardhi emphasized that publishing the reasoning for the Court’s decisions would contribute to increasing its credibility and would reduce the perception of political influence.
“The only valuable explanation for the public that the Constitutional Court should provide is this: what were the reasons and motives that led it to yield to the prime minister’s pressure in the Balluku case, showing irresponsibility and a pronounced lack of integrity. If the Constitutional Court clarifies these circumstances, it would release it from political leverage and would reduce the gap of distrust in this court,” he stated.
Bardhi accused the Constitutional Court of “double standards” in its stance regarding the interpretation of measures against an MP and a minister.
Earlier today, the Constitutional Court said in a press release that the matter will be reviewed in a plenary session on January 22, 2026, with the participation of the Prime Minister, the President, the Assembly, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Special Court, while inviting all actors and persons involved in this public discussion to be prudent and careful in their statements, by not defaming individual judges or the institution of the Constitutional Court as a whole. /r.e/p.s./
