TIRANA, Dec 22 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday said a new national digital platform aimed at farmers and agribusinesses would help prepare the sector for Albania’s bid to join the European Union.
Speaking at an event titled “With farmers in Albania 2030”, Rama said the new platform, called Euro Agro Albania, was designed as a practical working tool rather than a promotional website, providing guidance to farmers seeking to align with EU standards.
“The platform being launched today is intended to be used daily by those who invest, produce and want to increase exports, quality and capacity,” Rama said, describing it as an instrument to support growth and access to funding.
The government head said the platform would serve as a roadmap for farmers and agricultural operators throughout the EU accession negotiations, offering information on standards, deadlines and obligations stemming from the process.
He added that it would also function as a channel for dialogue and coordination between farmers and state institutions, including the agriculture ministry and the national rural development agency.
Rama said he wanted the Agricultural University of Tirana to be integrated into the platform, expanding access to technical expertise for farmers.
The launch follows the opening of Chapter Group 5 at Albania’s seventh intergovernmental conference with the EU, marking a new phase in accession talks.
The group includes Chapter 11 (Agriculture and Rural Development), Chapter 12 (Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy) and Chapter 13 (Fisheries), which are central to aligning Albania’s agricultural sector with EU rules.
